Aosta, Valtellina: 14-06,  773 Km I try again (clik to download the .igc file):

Meteo forecast are good for a thermal day: 30Km/h of N/O wind in the first part of the flight. At 9.30 I'm ready at the field of Aosta, but the liner coming from Milano is landing and the tow is not ready. 10.40 I take off and I must be very speady to jump out of the Aosta Valley before the clouds will close all the way. Conditions are good: cu base at 3500m, but thermal are weak under 2500m: 1.6m/s medium lifting, 92Km/h of medium speed. The last pilon of Tirano reach t 17.30 leave me happy but sure that I cannot come back to Aosta, last thermal at M.te Legnone and final glide to Calcinate

Aosta, 1000 Km will rest a dream,

Yesterday we plan a Take Off at 6.00 a.m. but the wind is still sleaping. At 8.00 we try to take off but we can just survive for two hours at 300m over the field. At 12.30 a beautifull thermal day will start but we are too tired and we come back to work !

Aosta, Valtellina: 26-04, 771 Km declared, all pilons ok, but landing at 721Km

After some impossible declared task I write a good declaration: AOSTA, FRONTALE, MASERA, TIRANO, AOSTA for 771 Km

I'm sure that the back to Aosta will be very hard, but Biella or Calcinate landing are still good. Giancarlo and Giacinto will flight with me, but with different task (over 1000Km!). After take off we flight lonley for all the day. Thermal conditions are good but not super: low point close to m.te Spluga, another close to Como lake, but Vlatellina valley is like Owens Valley !

  Aosta - Tonale Biella 13-05-01

Surprise day ! The NE wind make Biella's flyer in very difficoult condition: cu base at 900m. After the Tow I fell at 700m, little lifting at 900m, again at 700 waiting that the sun will do its job. Step by step I left Biella zone and entering in the mountain the cu base climb. 2000m are enought to go ahead to Est. Fantastic day ! All is hard but all is going well ! Finally I'm again in Valtellina ! I go to Tonale pass where the snow cover everithink. Is later and coming back clouds cover all the sky. Masera field is just open after the total destuction by the flood of 15-october-2000.

 Aosta - Thorame: 22-04-01

Clouds cover all the sky but the wind from N is doing its job and little parts of the sky are visible from Aosta field. Giancarlo and Giorgio are ready. After too low Tow (and a big mistake due to live the liner take off ) I'm on flight again ! The other friends are far and I push to climb in weak lifting. Over 2500m all is nice and I start my flight. The day have two speeds: at my left tunderstorm and very low clouds, at my right part of sun and the space enough to jum out of Aosta valley to South. Leaving Italy for France we have again 2/8 of beautifull clouds ! I found my frineds at Thorame and the round trip will start. Back in Italy the clouds are still very low and we have 100m only above the mountain close to Ceresole lake. 2000m of CU base, 3000m altitude of the pass... big problem ! Giacinto on the radio annunce us that there is a part of blu sky over the vertical  wall that climb to the pass, and a nice CU at 3500m leave us sure to come back in Aosta.

The flight is not closed, I push the column and other 100 Km are into the GPS, but a very low point close to Masera can be the end of the flight. N wind push ! I'm sure that the sun and the wind over the wall will lift me enough to come back in gliding at Biella filed. My LS8 climb at 80Km/h in a little lifting that push me at 3000, I'm at home !

 Aosta, Tirano A/R: 17-04, 559 Km libero

The wonderfull days of the year and the Airport of Biella is closed !!! 9 o'clock I'm at the field and I just can pick-up my trailer to Aosta losting many hours of flight !

Over any limits at 12.30 I'm ready to take off in Aosta, but the wind turn and we lost time again...

I leave the tow and all my worry leave with them. The day is fantastic ! Lifting are simple, large and over 4m/s. All my flight will be an excess of speed (200km/h are too much for my glider without charged ballast ). At Tirano I come back, I will try to return in Aosta. 17.30 I'm again over the field and now I don't know what I can do.

After 90Km of round trip to Andrate I land sure that I've lost the beautifull day of the year, but I'm still happy!
